Tim Jolley is married to Angela Jolley, has four children and five grandchildren. Tim served as a Circuit Judge in the State of Alabama in the 27th Judicial Circuit, Marshall County from January 1999 – January 2017. He still serves as an Active Retired Judge presiding over civil and criminal cases assigned to him by the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. He first engaged in the private practice of law from 1981 through 1986. In 1987 he took a position as an assistant D.A. for District Attorney for Marshall County, Ronald P. Thompson and became his Chief Assistant DA. He served as an Assistant District Attorney for 12 years. He also served as Commander of the Marshall County Special Crimes Unit charged with investigations of homicides within the county. Tim ran unopposed for a judgeship vacated due to retirement of another judge and ran unopposed until his retirement. He handled primarily civil and criminal cases and was a drug court judge.
His undergraduate studies were in Criminal Justice with an emphasis on Forensic Sciences at Jacksonville State University. He then obtained his law degree from Birmingham School of Law where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1981.
Jolley served as a member of the Alabama Circuit and District Court Association Judicial Education Committee and as a member of the Alabama Judicial College Faculty from 2000-2017. He spoke at a symposium held at Harvard University Law School on The Self-Represented Litigate. He continues to teach various continuing education courses relating to civil and criminal law to attorneys, judges, probation and parole officers, prosecutors, drug court personnel, law enforcement officers, and corrections officers.
He was appointed to the Alabama Prison Reform Task Force in 2015 and served until his retirement in 2017 assisting in the development of policy and the drafting of Alabama Prison Reform legislation.
Jolley was also appointed by the Alabama Secretary of State to a committee to assist in drafting legislation to reform the restoration of voting rights for convicted felons in Alabama.
He has been a member of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, and the Alabama Association of Drug Court Professionals where he served as their President in 2016. Jolley is also an Alumna of The National Judicial College at the University of Nevada, Reno. He has also served as an adjunct member of the National Judicial College Faculty.
Jolley is currently engaged in the private practice of law in Guntersville, Alabama where he also conducts mediation in all types of civil matters inside or outside of Marshall County.
